Why Must All Hindus Not Support the BJP - Debunking Misconceptions

As a practicing Hindu, my stance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revolves around the principle that religion and politics should remain separate. Just because a person follows Hinduism does not automatically mean they should support political parties that veer into controversial or divisive territory. In my state, where the majority are Hindu and non-Hindu alike, the BJP faces significant opposition. This opposition stems from the party's tendency to invoke communal tensions, which goes against the spirit of inclusivity that should govern any democratic setup.

Why BJP Struggles to Win Our State

The BJP often finds itself struggling in states like ours due to its history of divisiveness and communal rhetoric. However, it is crucial to recognize that there are other parties that work towards a more inclusive and equitable society. These parties do not perpetuate communal divisions, but instead fight for the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religious or cultural affiliations. By supporting such parties, we can genuinely work towards a future where every person can live peacefully and harmoniously.

Hindus are Not Fools or Indoctrinated

Hindus, like any other religious or cultural group, encompass a wide spectrum of individuals. We are not all foolish or indoctrinated. We have diverse perspectives and opinions, and our support for political parties should be based on their manifestos and actions rather than mere adherence to religious demographics. Therefore, no Hindu should be compelled to vote for the BJP. Instead, we must support candidates and parties who genuinely work towards the welfare of all citizens and uphold the principles of the Constitution.

Critical Views on BJP and Crime

The BJP has a disturbing record of associating with criminals, corrupt individuals, and individuals with violent backgrounds. Just because these individuals may be Hindu does not make them representative of Hindu values or Hinduism. For instance, Subhendu Adhikari, a turncoat and accused in the Narada sting operation, joined the BJP to evade arrest. He then went on to tell a TMC functionary that his father was a thief when the TMC functionary accused the center of stealing the state's dues. These actions reflect a culture of deceit and dishonesty, which is contrary to the values of Hinduism and Hindutva.

BJP and Sectarian Tensions

It is also important to address the BJP's role in stoking sectarian tensions. For example, the statement made by Sanatana Dharma critic, Udayanidhi Stalin, suggesting that Hinduism is a threat akin to diseases such as malaria or dengue, is both outdated and harmful. Yet, no partner in the INSA alliance has challenged this statement, which indicates a tacit acceptance of such views. Similarly, Akbaruddin, who once threatened to kill all Hindus if given a chance, has been given a position of power by the Congress party, a leading INSA partner.

Conclusion

Supporting a political party should not be driven by religious or cultural affiliations. Instead, it should be based on the party's commitment to values such as peace, inclusivity, and the rule of law. By supporting the BJP, we risk reinforcing a culture of divisiveness and hatred.
