Why I Left My Job to Prepare for GATE: A Journey of Dedication and Determination
I did.
I left my job in favor of preparing for the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) because of dissatisfaction with my current position and a deep-seated desire to pursue a more fulfilling career path. Through this journey, I experienced numerous challenges but ultimately found success.
Leaving the Comfort Zone
Diving into my personal experience, I had a decent job placed with Deloitte through my campus placement drives. Although the salary was reasonable, I was not fulfilled by the physical demands of the job, such as night shifts, which left me exhausted. I also lacked the confidence to dedicate the necessary time to prepare for the GATE, leading me to barely qualify for the exam in 2019. Despite this, I decided to continue my studies and work simultaneously.
The Turning Point
My situation changed in November 2020 when I decided to resign from my job. It was a challenging decision, as I had to ensure that I had the time and energy to prepare effectively for the examination. By then, I had identified my weaknesses and revised my study plan accordingly. This mindset shift and the commitment to self-improvement were crucial steps on my path to success.
Preparing with Axiety
As I approached the GATE 2021 exam, I faced significant anxiety, especially when the paper was unexpectedly jumbled and lacked multiple-choice questions (MSQs). This level of difficulty left me crying upon returning home. However, I refused to give up. The result was an unbelievable AIR (All India Rank) of 628, which was a breakthrough for me. Following my success, I secured a spot in the Master of Technology (MTech) program at IISc Bangalore in Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE).
Lessons from the Journey
This experience has taught me valuable lessons. The first is the importance of self-awareness in recognizing when it's time to make a change. The second is the power of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges. Finally, it has shown me the value of believing in my own abilities and making big steps even when the path ahead seems daunting.
Further Motivation
It is my hope that sharing my journey can inspire others to take the leap and believe in themselves. Success rarely comes overnight, but with dedication and hard work, it is within reach. All the best!
