The biblical deity, commonly referred to as Jehovah within the Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism), has been described as a mass murderer of humans, women, infants, and countless animals. This association of such an egregious figure with divinity leaves many individuals skeptical about such a concept.

Alternative Conceptions of God

People tend to favor more positive, appealing concepts of a supreme being, such as Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth, home, and family. Or they might prefer gods like Thor, the Norse god known for his amazing hammer, or Odin, the god who sacrificed his eye for wisdom. Why would someone choose to believe in a god associated with mass atrocities, when there is no proof of his existence or power?

The Question of Truthfulness in Religious Texts

Many Christians, unless they admit to the falsehoods within the Bible, believe in the worst possible god. It is suggested that almost 95% of what the Bible attributes to its god is false. Thus, why would anyone cling to such a book filled with inaccuracies and falsehoods? This raises the question of the credibility and truthfulness of religious texts.

The Modern Relevance of God

Many argue that modern societies have evolved to a point where the concept of a god is unnecessary. Laws and consequences are determined by human societies, rather than some vengeful sky being who disapproves. Civilized nations uphold laws based on human reasoning and scientific advancements, not divine commandments.

Even during the most pious times, humans have found ways to circumvent religious rules. This has led to the development of concepts such as forgiveness within Christianity to justify human actions. Nowadays, many cultures embrace religious customs and rituals (such as Christmas, Chanukah, Baptisms, and Circumcisions) while turning to scientific and technological solutions in times of need. God, in many cases, is simply not as significant.

Science and Religion in Contemporary Life

Science continues to offer practical solutions and explanations for many aspects of life, diminishing the need for divine intervention. People often yawn when it comes to religious concerns, emphasizing the growing irrelevance of traditional religious beliefs in a technology-driven world.

Therefore, the modern person's skepticism about the divine is often rooted in a pragmatic, evidence-based approach to life. A god who does not interact with the world in clear and tangible ways seems less compelling and less relevant in their view of the universe.
