Why Everyone Claims to be Hiring but Nobody is Getting Hired

It's a common frustration: you apply to dozens of jobs and only receive the standard rejection emails, or sometimes nothing at all. This can be particularly disheartening if you've recently lost your job and are desperate for new opportunities. But what exactly is causing this issue, and why does it seem like companies are randomly advertising open positions without following through?

Pro Forma Hiring: Deception at Face Value

Pro forma hiring is a practice where companies publicly advertise job openings even though they have someone in mind internally. This is not only dishonest but also gambling on the vagaries of the job market. If the law demands that all positions be open to all applicants, then perhaps the law needs to be reconsidered.

In practice, if you have ten applicants who do not meet your criteria, you keep advertising the position instead of hiring one of these applicants. Even the best candidate may not be the right fit if they lack certain qualifications. Fingers crossed that someone qualified will come along eventually.

Regulatory Obligations and Internal Selections

Many companies advertise job positions for compliance reasons, despite already having someone in mind. This practice can help them avoid legal issues or comply with certain regulations. They may have an internal candidate but are required to advertise externally to maintain transparency.

The number of jobs you're applying for can feel overwhelming, but you need to assess if the jobs are genuinely open and relevant to your experience. Are these positions in your local area, or are they in distant locations? Do you have the qualifications needed for these roles, or are you just applying to see if you can get away with minimal effort?

Qualification, Willingness, and Mindset

When looking at job applications, employers often seek specific qualifications. If you're applying to fast food places and not getting hired, it might be a sign that it's not the right fit for your skills or preferences. Consider seeking professional help if you're struggling with anxiety or self-esteem issues.

Personal relationships can also play a role. Do you have a significant other and what do they think of your job search efforts? They can provide support or useful insights. If you're not getting hired, it might be a sign that your qualifications or the type of jobs you're applying to might not be the best fit.

Personal Experience and Insight

I am a gardener with no degree and experience in gardening, landscape maintenance, and street cleaning. My day starts with cleaning 10 streets under my care, then moving on to parks and gardens to maintain and improve their appearance. This experience has taught me that there are countless job opportunities available, but it's about your mindset and perspective.

In countries like Pakistan, we have a lot of foreigners working in low-level positions that degree holders are unwilling to fill. Meanwhile, those complaining about a lack of work are not even trying to apply for the jobs available. When I was struggling, I worked at a petrol station and held odd jobs with low pay. I was happy doing these jobs as a weed smoker.

Even though I struggle to apply for top jobs like IT roles, there are plenty of jobs out there if you're open to them. Your dreams, aspirations, and willingness to work hard are key factors in finding employment. Remember, the job market is vast, and every job can be open to you if you have the right mindset and are willing to pursue it.
