Understanding and Harnessing the Concept of Deserving for Personal Growth

The idea of deserving something can be both empowering and demotivating, depending on how it is perceived and the context in which it is viewed. When deserving something is seen as a result of one's own effort and accomplishments, it can be a powerful motivator for personal growth and development. However, if it is perceived as a grant of something simply by existing, it can lead to a negative mindset.

Deserving and Personal Achievement

According to the definition of deserving, it means doing something or having or showing qualities worthy of reward or punishment. This implies that deserving is not a fixed trait within oneself but an accomplishment that can be demonstrated through one's actions, choices, and qualities. This concept can be a great motivational strategy in personal growth and development.

To harness the power of deserving, one should employ the same strategies as those for achieving something:

Identify the Goal: Clearly define what you wish to achieve. Create a Plan: Develop a detailed plan on how to achieve your goal. Execute the Plan: Act upon your plan with consistency and determination.

Challenging the Negative Mindset

Some might argue that the feeling of not deserving anything is a form of whingeing, which can be seen as negative. It might stem from the belief that one does not feel worthy and does not deserve much. However, it is important to recognize that such a mindset is not inherent. In fact, the belief in deserving the best that life has to offer is a fundamental conviction shared by most living beings.

The opposite of this belief, which is often cultivated by the false ego, aims to keep individuals dissatisfied and off balance. Strategies that foster a sense of deservingness are not necessarily weakening; rather, they can empower individuals by confirming their worth and potential.

The Illusion of Deservingness

The concept of deservingness, in a philosophical sense, often appears as a mental construct. It is an illusion with no bearing on reality or awareness. Whether one is aware or unaware of this concept, the reality is that everything exists as it is, regardless of deserving or not

Understanding that there is only 'what is'—absolute reality—and that existence is ready or not is crucial. True deserving is found in recognizing one's potential and aligning one's actions with that potential. This alignment can lead to profound personal growth and development.

The Role of Meditation

To cultivate a sense of deservingness, individuals can turn to meditation, a powerful tool that has been used for centuries to enhance awareness and bring about positive changes. Meditation can release stress and guide one's awareness to Pure Consciousness (PC), the True Self, whose nature is Bliss and Peace.

Meditation involves forming specific habits that can help in personal growth:

Find a Quiet Place: Choose a place where you can sit undisturbed. Achieve Comfort: Sit in a comfortable position. Close Your Eyes: Close your eyes to block external stimuli. Mantra: Repeat the mantra “OM” silently. Allow Thoughts to Flow: Allow thoughts and feelings to come naturally. Return to the Mantra: Whenever you realize you have drifted away from the mantra, bring your focus back to it. Duration: Practice for 20 minutes, ideally in the morning and evening.

By following these simple steps, one can effectively meditate and begin the journey towards inner peace and Enlightenment. This practice ultimately frees individuals from the suffering associated with ego and helps them live up to their full potential.
