Phrases like 'they are dangerous,' 'crazy,' and 'you can catch a sickness from them' perpetuate false beliefs and contribute to a hostile environment for those who suffer from mental illnesses.

Dispelling Myths and Understanding the Reality of Mental Illness

First and foremost, it is crucial to understand that mental illness is a recognized medical condition, just like any other illness. According to reliable sources, 99.6% of people suffering from mental illnesses are not dangerous. In fact, individuals with mental health conditions are more often the victims of crimes than perpetrators. They desire to lead productive lives, regain control of their dignity and function properly after their mental health journey.

Beyond the myths, the reality is that up to 20% of the population will experience a mental health condition each year. Recognizing these facts can help reduce stigma and encourage more people to seek the support they need.
