Our spiritual well-being and progress are deeply intertwined with our everyday choices, including the food we consume. Consuming non-vegetarian food can significantly impede the spiritual journey and aligning with alertness and divine grace.

Impact on the Mind and Journey

For a spiritual journey to be successful, the mind must remain alert. Any habit that dulls the mind can hinder this progress. Non-vegetarian food, along with some heavy vegetarian meals, can make one feel inactive and lethargic. This inactivity is a result of the energy drained from the process of killing and consuming animals.

Moral Responsibility and Karma

A spiritual practitioner willingly avoids non-vegetarian food because it involves killing, which is distressing to the beings involved. Even if you do not directly kill, the demand for meat encourages the supply, making you complicit in this act of killing. This responsibility comes with a heavy karma that can manifest in future lives through suffering. Inadvertent or intentional intake of poison will have a definite impact on your spiritual path.

The Connection Between Food and Spiritual Progress

Consuming non-vegetarian food not only increases bad karma but also reminds us of the purpose of our existence. We are the highest creation of the divine and capable of realizing our true connection to the divine. However, by consuming animals and forgetting our divine mission, we accrue more bad karma, ultimately making life miserable. Hurting other animals can never bring happiness, as their emotional cries during slaughter are registered in the ether, and this karma eventually has to be accounted for.

Prakriti and the Nature of Food

The concept of Prakriti essentially refers to the fundamental nature or qualities of a being. According to Hindu scriptures, food we consume directly affects and shifts our Prakriti. Krishna identifies the three modes of Prakriti as Sattva (pure), Rajas (dynamic and passionate), and Tamas (darkness/ignorance). Most animals reside in the Tamas mode, which lies in the realm of ignorance. Consuming Tamasik food like non-vegetarian options can transform one into a Tamasik state, leading to a life of animal-like tendencies and thoughts, ultimately hindering spiritual growth.

A Path to Moksha

To accelerate the path to Moksha or liberation, one must be mindful of their Prakriti and align their life according to Sanatan Dharma. By consuming Sattvic food and living in accordance with the divine principles, one can steer their life towards positivity and spiritual enlightenment.

Shiva Om! Every act that we partake in through our daily diet directly influences our Prakriti and, consequently, our reality. Awareness and conscious eating are paramount tools for spiritual progress. Remember, the impact of our thoughts and the food we consume is not just on ourselves but extends to the universe and beyond.
