The Myth of Postmodern Relativism: Debunking Misconceptions About Absolute Truth

In the context of our increasingly postmodern culture, where voices argue that objective truth or any form of absolute right or wrong does not exist, the question arises: does absolute truth truly1 exist?

There is a critical realization that many people miss when discussing this subject: the correct answer does not matter because people often seek a solid foundation to reassure themselves that they are on the right path in life. Conversely, if someone declares there is no absolute truth, they might ironically find the same level of certainty in their belief, perhaps even more so.

Redefining Reality Without Absolutes

It is essential to understand that reality does not require or depend on absolutes. Within specific subsystems, truths can be as effective and functional as absolute truths would be. This understanding erases the certainty that some hold about the non-existence of absolute truth.

Postmodern Culture: A Call for Lying to Ignore the Truth

Postmodern culture is, at its core, a manifestation of habitual liars who use lies to avoid dealing with uncomfortable truths. The truth remains the only constant and unchanging foundation upon which reality is built.

Multiple Absolute Truths in Context

Contrary to the popular belief that there is no such thing as absolute truth, there are many truths that are absolute within their contexts. Just because truth is relative does not mean it lacks absolute qualities within specific systems or contexts.

Logical Flaw: The Absolute Statement

The notion that there is no absolute truth itself is an absolute statement. This paradoxical nature highlights the logical flaw in rejecting absolute truth. Furthermore, this rejection does not absolve societal values or individuals from making decisions based on what is right and wrong.

Objectivity and Creation by God

Throughout history, every society has acknowledged the existence of objective truth, grounded in their belief that they were created by a God who is the ultimate source of all truth. Without this external reference point, humanity would be lost, without a point of reference to guide their actions.

1When discussing absolute truth, it is important to note that this term is used in the philosophical sense, denoting a universal and unchanging reality that exists independently of human perception.
