The Life-Changing Impact of Quitting Facebook and Instagram
Oh Lord! I must admit, it was a life-changing decision for me. There was a time when I spent almost the entire day glued to my phone, with my Instagram activity reaching up to 7-8 hours every single day. It felt like an endless spiral of time wasted, and I couldn't break free from the routine, especially facing endless regret at the end of each day.
Why I Quit
It wasn’t until a few months ago that I finally made the decision to stop using Instagram and other social media apps. Initially, it was out of necessity due to personal and family issues. Temporarily quitting was a stark realization of how these apps had consumed my life. I remember the initial struggle of facing an empty, time-starved life without these platforms, and the temptation to sneak in a quick glance at my Instagram feed. However, over time I adapted, and now I can confidently say that I have seen a remarkable change in my life.
How Social Media Affected Me
My days were filled with excessive scrolling through memes, constant comparisons with others, and the unfortunate habit of skipping showers. I even became a big stalker, continuously seeking closure and emotional attachment. Academically, I never participated in college societies or internships, and I never gave significant thought to my future plans or scenarios. In short, I wasted most of my college years on unimportant pursuits.
Life Without Social Media
Fast forward to the present, my life has transformed dramatically. I now talk to very few people, interact with just two close friends. I've reduced the constant comparisons and am still working on it, recognizing that contentment comes from within. In the absence of social media, I've become more proactive about my health, taking showers regularly and taking a break from the daily stress. I've started participating in important exams and even set a goal to read at least one book a year. Other than that, I've substituted Snapchat and other platforms with Pinterest and Quora, making more meaningful connections and insights. Owning a dog has been a significant source of comfort, helping me overcome my sadness and anxiety immensely.
Finally, I have learned to find happiness in the small things in life. It all matters in the grand scheme, and that is the essence of contentment.
Conclusion
Quitting social media was a difficult decision, but the positive impact on my life is undeniable. It’s a reminder that we have the power to reclaim our time and focus on what truly matters. If you feel like your life is being hijacked by social media, consider taking steps towards a healthier, more balanced life. Thanks for reading, and I hope my journey inspires you!
