High school education is a stepping stone, but college or university plays a pivotal role in shaping one's life trajectory. For me, my higher education journey, although decades ago, continues to have a profound impact on my life and career today. This article explores how my college and university degree changed my life and whether it was worth it.

My college years exposed me to a myriad of cultural, racial, and ideological perspectives, which I now conceptualize as diversity. This exposure has been instrumental in broadening my world view and understanding the complexities of human interactions and societal dynamics. Although my degree is from decades ago, the principles and knowledge I gained continue to influence my daily life and professional choices.

Upon completion of my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), I embarked on a career as a nurse. While I have a deep love for the profession, I must admit that the 12-hour shifts can be grueling. Despite the challenging work schedule, the pay is excellent, and with career advancement, one can even earn a competitive income, almost on par with that of a Medical Doctor (MD) or a General Practitioner (GP).

Post-Graduate Advancement: The Power of Knowledge and Skills

While my initial degree did not immediately lead to significant changes in my career path, it opened doors to further advanced studies. The pursuit of a Masters and Ph.D. proved to be very beneficial. These degrees not only expanded my professional opportunities but also provided a robust intellectual foundation that has been instrumental in my teaching career.

Over the last five decades, I have enjoyed three successful careers, retiring from two and continuing to work in the third as a director of education.
