The top-50 companies on the Nifty, a leading share index in India, reported a record year-on-year increase in CEO compensation to Rs 28.4 crore in the financial year 2021-22. This marks a 22% year-on-year jump from the previous financial years that averaged between Rs 17-18 crore between 2017-18 and 2019-20.

Subrahmanyan, CEO and MD of Larsen Toubro, is among the top earners. Rajesh Gopinathan, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) since 2017, also ranks high. Sidhartha Lal, the head of Eicher Motors Ltd., and Mukesh Ambani, the owner of Reliance Industries, are notable mentions.
The Highest-Paid CEOs in 2020
As of June 2020, Mukesh Ambani topped the list with an annual remuneration of Rs. 44.3 crore. His fortune was further bolstered by the ownership of Reliance Industries, a major player in various sectors including telecommunication and retail.
IT Sector Leaders
In the IT sector, C Vijayakumar of HCL Tech emerged as the highest-paid CEO with a compensation package of 16.52 million, equivalent to about Rs. 130 crore.

Thierry Delaporte, CEO of Wipro, took the top spot in the Indian IT sector, with an annual compensation of Rs 798 million for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022. He managed to overtake Salil Parekh of Infosys, previously recognized as one of the highest earners in the sector.

Dr. Kalanithi Maran and Kaveri Kalanithi Maran, the chairman and founder of the Sun Group, stand out with an annual salary of Rs 59.89 crore each.
