Every year, as the calendar flips to January 1st, many people find themselves asking the same question: “What kind of weekly, monthly, and yearly goals are you setting for yourself in the new year?”
The Power of Reflection
For some, this is a moment of deep reflection, a chance to think about the past year and set intentions for the coming one. My goals, however, are simple and rooted in the quotidian. They reflect a philosophy that seeks to embrace the present moment and the blessings of life.

Wake up every morning. Live as healthily as possible. Enjoy the day; live simply. Do or say something nice to someone. Thank God for my blessings. Realize that it is all a blessing.Adapting to Change
While I don’t usually engage heavily in goal setting, their necessity becomes more apparent each year. This year, I am acknowledging that change is necessary and committing to it. The easy part of this change, for me, is stepping up my physical activity. Living in London, I have the privilege of exploring its myriad parks and green spaces, and I am excited about this opportunity. Walking and strolling through the city can be an invigorating, rejuvenating experience, and I can certainly fit that into my routine every day.
The harder part of this transition, however, is cutting down on the amount of food I consume. Food is, and always has been, a significant pleasure in my life, often a communal and social affair. It is a celebration of life itself. But as the saying goes, ‘too much of a good thing can be bad for you.’ I am aware that my current relationship with food could be affecting my health, and I am willing to make changes.

While I am committed to making healthier choices, it does not mean I will give up food altogether. Moderation is key, and I plan to approach this challenge with a balanced attitude. Perhaps I can find healthier alternatives, mix more vegetables and fruits into my meals, and opt for walks or other low-impact activities during those times when I am feeling particularly hungry. It’s not about extremes or self-deprivation, but about finding a new equilibrium.

Ultimately, my goals are about more than just physical health. They are rooted in a philosophy of thankfulness and gratitude. Each morning, I will wake up reminding myself of the blessings in my life and how fortunate I am to be able to wake up every day, explore the city, and share my experiences with others. Life is a precious gift, and I intend to live it to the fullest.
