Dearness Allowance (DA) is directly linked with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This variable component of salary increases proportionally with the CPI every year. The DA is the same for Class X, Class Y, and Class Z regions.
The CPI measures the fluctuations or average changes in price that a consumer has to pay for a basket of goods and services, including food, transportation, medical care, etc., over time.
House Rent Allowance (HRA)
House Rent Allowance (HRA) is location-dependent and usually varies based on the location of posting, which can be Class X, Class Y, or Class Z.

Class X - 8 metro cities (Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Greater Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata) - cities with a population of 50 lakh people or more Class Y - around 100 towns in India with a population above 5 lakh people and below 50 lakhs. State capitals also fall under this category Class Z - rural areas in India and cities with a population less than 5 lakhsSince the Kerala PSC Secretariat Assistant will be deployed in some location within the state and Kerala has no metro city, the HRA will be that of either a Class Y or Class Z region.
