SSB Experience: A Comprehensive Journey Through the Selection Process
SSB Experience: A Comprehensive Journey Through the Selection Process
When I joined Quora, I started reading numerous personal experiences of others who had undergone the SSB (Service Selection Board) process. I had a strong wish to share my experience, which I finally did. This account will provide a detailed insight into my SSB journey, highlighting both the enjoyable and challenging aspects.
Background
To be truly honest, I hadn't prepared extensively for the SSB as I was managing a new job during the same period. Despite this, I applied for the AFCAT NCC Special Entry for Flying. As an Airforce NCC cadet, one can apply for this entry only after securing a good percentage in 12th Science and graduation. More information can be found on the official AFCAT website.
Once I received the call letter, my manager was extremely supportive. He encouraged me to attend the interview and was proud that I got this opportunity to experience a holiday from work. My last SSB attempt for the same entry was two years ago, so I knew I had to give my best this time.
SSB Journey
Day 1 - Stage 1: Psychology Test
Check-In and Formalities: I reported to 2AFSB on time and underwent all basic formalities such as checking of admit card and ID proof and basic documentation. OIR Test: I completed the OIR (Objective Intelligence Rating) test. The test had two sections, each with 50 questions and a time limit of 20 minutes. PPDT Test: I had to narrate a story based on a blurry image. I made a story about a medicinal shop and presented it confidently. Although not selected for the final group discussion, I felt confident about my performance. Lunch and Results: After completing the tests, we received lunch, then waited anxiously for results. I was selected, and congratulations were passed all around.A total of 58 candidates were selected for Stage 2 out of the 260 reported. After bag scanning, we were allowed to call our family and friends to share the news.
Day 2: Rest Day
This day was designated for rest and getting to know my roommates. For me, SSB was a familiar experience as I had good NCC background. The SSB center offered a relaxed environment with sports, a library, and study rooms.
Day 3: Personal Interview
I was allotted the morning slot for the personal interview. The interview was conducted by Wing Commander in uniform and another person from DRDO. The interview went smoothly, and I felt confident about my performance.
Day 4: GTO Day 1
GD - Group Discussion: We discussed various topics and shared our perspectives. GPE - Group Planning Exercise: We worked on a task which required cooperation and planning. PGT - Progressive Group Task: We performed a task that required us to follow a sequence of instructions.Day 5: GTO Day 2 Conference
The final day involved further GTO activities:
GTO - Group Task Optimization: We worked on optimizing a task within a group. Conference: A final conference was held, and we bid adieu to the SSB process. Conclusion
My SSB experience was a mix of challenges and enjoyable moments. Despite the pressure of the interview and tests, I felt supported by my team and confident about my performance. This experience was not just a holiday but an invaluable learning journey.
