Role and Duties of AEE Electrical in Telangana’s Irrigation and CAD Department
Role and Duties of AEE Electrical in Telangana’s Irrigation and CAD Department
The Assistant Engineer (AEE) in the Electrical wing of the Telangana Irrigation and Command Area Development (CAD) Department plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of electrical systems in irrigation projects. This article will delve into the specific duties and responsibilities of an AEE, as well as the place of posting for these engineers in Telangana.
Duties of AEE Electrical
Project Supervision: AEE Electricals are responsible for overseeing all electrical works related to irrigation projects, ensuring that these works comply with technical specifications and safety standards. They are also responsible for conducting regular site inspections to check the progress and quality of electrical installations.
Design and Planning: In addition to supervision, AEEs assist in the design and planning of electrical systems for irrigation projects, which includes the planning of power supply and distribution networks. This role demands a deep technical knowledge and an understanding of the specific needs of the irrigation infrastructure.
Maintenance: AEEs ensure the maintenance of electrical equipment and installations in irrigation facilities such as pumps and motors. This responsibility includes regular inspections and repairs to keep the electrical systems running efficiently.
Budgeting and Cost Estimation: Preparing estimates for electrical works and managing the budget for projects is another critical task. AEE Electricals must have a strong financial management skill set to ensure that projects are completed within a set budget and time frame.
Coordination: Collaboration is essential in the AEE role. These engineers must work closely with other engineering departments and stakeholders to facilitate project delivery. Effective communication and coordination ensure that all aspects of a project run smoothly.
Site Inspections: Regular site inspections are conducted to monitor the progress and quality of electrical installations. These inspections help catch any issues early, preventing potential problems in the long run.
Reporting: Preparing technical reports and documentation related to electrical works and project progress is crucial for transparency and accountability. These reports serve as a record of the work done and progress made, aiding in the decision-making process.
Compliance: Ensuring adherence to government policies and regulations is a fundamental responsibility. AEE Electricals must stay up-to-date with the latest regulations and ensure that all work complies with these standards.
Place of Posting: Field Locations and Head Office
Field Locations: AEE Electricals are often posted at various irrigation project sites across Telangana. These locations may include dams, reservoirs, and canal systems. For instance, in the Devadula Lift Irrigation Project, which is designed to serve erstwhile Warangal district, AEEs can be posted at multiple locations such as Eturnagaram Intake Pump-House, Bhupalpally, Warangal, or Jagaon.
Head Office: Besides field locations, AEEs may also work at the departmental headquarters in Hyderabad or other regional offices. In these locations, they engage in planning, coordination, and administrative tasks. They may be responsible for reviewing and approving engineering drawings, overseeing the procurement of materials, and ensuring that projects are on track.
Electrical Engineers’ Role in Lift Irrigation Projects
With the advent of lift irrigation, the role of Electrical Engineers in the Irrigation and CAD department has become more critical. In projects where lift irrigation is not used, the need for electrical engineers may be limited. However, in lift irrigation projects, their expertise is indispensable.
Duties in Ongoing Projects in Construction
Approval of Drawings: AEEs are often the first officer to scrutinize all engineering drawings related to electrical machinery, such as motors, SCADA systems, transformers, DG sets, LT panels, etc. They ensure that these drawings meet the required standards and specifications before seeking final approval from higher authorities.
Procurement of Motors and Equipment: AEEs are responsible for overseeing the procurement of all electrical equipment, including motors, and ensuring that these equipment meet the project’s requirements. They attend equipment inspections on behalf of the department to ensure that the equipment is in good condition and ready for installation at the site.
Erection of Equipment at Site: AEEs also participate in the installation of electrical equipment, particularly in Pump-Houses. They are involved in the installation of motors and other electrical equipment to ensure that these installations are carried out correctly and efficiently.
Duties in Completed Projects
Operation and Maintenance of Pump-Houses: After projects are completed, AEEs are responsible for the operation and maintenance of Pump-Houses, including electrical systems. Regular maintenance ensures that these systems continue to function optimally and that any issues are addressed promptly.
Power Bill Management: AEEs are also responsible for managing power bills, paying them to the TRANSCO (Transmission and Distribution Company) to ensure that the electricity supply is uninterrupted and that the project’s operational costs are managed efficiently.
