Reflections on My Career: Memorable and Exciting Moments

As I look back on my career, two pivotal moments stand out, each leaving a lasting impact. These experiences shaped not only my professional journey but also my personal growth. Here, I share these memorable moments and some of the key highlights from my career.

A First Day of Unboxing

My career began with a memorable incident on my very first day. When I arrived at my new workplace, the technology was quite different. We had just unboxed an Apple computer that was teal in color. My new mentor, the person replacing me, was tasked with teaching me my job. She asked where I wanted to start, and I replied, 'How do I turn it on?' while expressing my love for the job but my disdain for the computer. I thought the handles on top of the computer were there for a reason—to throw like a bowling ball into the parking lot!

Interestingly, the previous employee only stayed for the paycheck, and I resolved to never follow in his footsteps. Instead, I vowed to either love my job or leave it, a mantra I still uphold today. Eight and a half years later, on my last day, I decided to leave the company, turning off the lights for the last time and exiting quietly, without a single return.

Employee of the Month Glory

Another significant moment in my career occurred around eight to nine years ago when I was part of a small IT company. As HR, I was solely responsible for performance appraisals and salary increments for 200 employees. There was no HR management system, so all tasks had to be done manually. During this period, I was also preparing for performance appraisals, which was a challenging task.

The company's revenue was poor, and none of the pending projects had been completed. However, the management decided that there would be no employee of the month program this month. This decision was initially a relief, as collecting data for such recognition was a huge task. Surprisingly, on the first day of July, my name was posted as the employee of the month. This unexpected recognition came as a surprise but was the best thing that any employer has ever done for me.

Personal and Professional Achievements

My professional journey is also marked by some cherished personal milestones. One such moment occurred when I joined my first company. My manager provided me with notes to learn HTML, CSS, and Laravel. After a week, he assigned me a project to work on from scratch, and I was rather scared to take on this responsibility. Yet, I watched tutorials late into the night so I could work on the project the next day.

Working diligently, I finally launched the project after two months. The satisfaction on the day it went live was overwhelming, and I shared the link with my friends. This moment of seeing my hard work come to fruition was arguably the most memorable highlight of my career.
