Reflections on Leaving Infosys: A Technological Journey with Enduring Memories
My experience quitting Infosys was akin to crawling out of a pool and taking a sanitizing shower. Companies like Infosys, while offering indispensable services, often feel like a compost pile, beneficial for a few. However, for those with a climbing the technical ladder, there's only so much these kinds of organizations can offer themselves.
While I wouldn't venture into commenting on what happens when the economy experiences a downturn, I do prefer to collect their shares rather than work there. The experience at Infosys was a defining period, where the contrasts between varied projects and a unique company culture created a web of memories.
Emotional Farewell: Infosys, More Than Just a Company
Leaving Infosys was more than just resigning—it felt like leaving a part of myself behind. Even after two years, I still regret my decision to leave. Infosys in Mysore, with its sprawling training halls, GEC2 architecture, and the largest hall for technical interviews, holds a special place in my heart.
The campus in Mysore was a remarkable place, with its cleanest roads, and the bicycle rides that connected the hostel to the training center. There were perpetual memories: the Mythri FC tandoori at Mythri FC and the fiesta fried rice at Oasis FC puation, Nexus 2. The multiplex with its long movie queues both before and after work—only an ISC can truly appreciate these moments.
The evenings and late nights were filled with studies, the campus buzzing with activity late into the night, with students roaming until 12:00, finishing dinner at 11:00, and having late Sunday breakfast at the multiplex's bowling alley. Sunday outings in Mysore, dinners at Golden Grass, and après-swissre activities were a testament to the camaraderie and joy of being part of the Infosys community.
The Journey of Professional Growth and the Infoscian Community
While the headquarters undergo a transformation in Bangalore, the journey of upskilling was a testament to the company's commitment to growth. From a transition from manual to automation testing, I upskilled and completed training in mainframe testing. The 'benchtime' in Bangalore, where we would chat and nap on scraps of machinery, was a cherished memory.
Your experience at Infosys is a blend of technical skills, camaraderie, and the swissre team that won the project of the best friends for a lifetime. Despite facing some hard times, especially during sendoffs and goodbyes, the warmth and joy of working with the team, the late dinners, and the wonderful management—these moments form a cornerstone of your journey.
Conclusion: A Chapter Closes, but Memories Endure
Efforts like leaving behind the best parts of Infosys may seem bittersweet, but they also signify the start of new adventures. The lifecycle of every company, especially those within the IT industry, is marked by milestones, goodbyes, and the promise of better opportunities ahead. Though the journey with Infosys may have closed, the memories and the learnings from it will undoubtedly guide and inspire my future endeavors.
