The Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.) program offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) through correspondence is designed to equip student teachers with the necessary tools to enhance their teaching skills at upper primary, secondary, and senior-secondary levels.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission
To enroll in the B. Ed. program via correspondence at IGNOU, candidates must meet several key eligibility criteria. These requirements ensure that participants are well-prepared to engage in the academic and practical aspects of the program.
Educational Qualification
A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university is required. For some programs, candidates are also required to have a minimum percentage, typically around 50%, in their graduation.Teaching Experience
Teaching experience is a critical aspect of the admission requirements. Candidates must have at least two years of teaching experience in a recognized school or educational institution. This criterion is particularly important for in-service teachers.
Age Limit
There is generally no upper age limit for the B. Ed. program. However, candidates must be at least 21 years old.
Entrance Exam

Programme Introduction
The B. Ed. program at IGNOU aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the teaching-learning process for upper primary, secondary, and senior-secondary students. The minimum duration for the program is two years, with a maximum of up to five years for completion.
Medium of Instruction
The Bachelor of Education program is offered in English and Hindi mediums only.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission
The eligibility criteria for the B. Ed. program through correspondence include:
A minimum of 50% marks in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Science, Social Sciences, Commerce, or Humanity. A 55% cut-off may apply for B. Tech or B. E. candidates with a specialization in Science and Mathematics. The university accepts equivalent qualifications. Trained in-service teachers in elementary education are eligible. Candidates who have completed NCTE-recognized teacher education programs through face-to-face modes are also eligible. Reservation and relaxation of 5 marks in minimum eligibility are provided to SC/ST/OBC Non-Creamy Layer/PWD candidates according to the Central Government rules. Reservation to Kashmiri Migrants and war widow candidates is granted according to the university rules. A Master’s Degree awarded without a first degree is not accepted for academic studies in IGNOU.Important Instructions
Candidates must ensure that their results are declared and that they are meeting the minimum eligibility requirements at the time of submitting the application form. Applications submitted based on non-eligible results will not be considered.
Trained teachers and in-service teachers must meet the criteria as per NCTE-recognized norms and procedures.
The Diploma in Elementary Education (DEIEd) or any other teacher education program completed through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is not considered a teacher education program for B. Ed. admission.
Along with other requisite certificates, candidates must submit their marksheet and a certificate of completing a teacher education program through face-to-face mode recognized by NCTE.
Online Entrance Test
The online entrance test for the B. Ed. program is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The test is held on 27th July 2029, and hall tickets will be uploaded on the IGNOU-NTA website.
Successful candidates will be required to submit an online entrance form. Original documents will be verified after receiving an offer letter for admission at the concerned regional centers.
Changes to category codes will not be entertained after the submission of the entrance form.
The final admission is contingent upon the candidate's rank in the merit list, proof of eligibility, and the production of original certificates and program fees. Each center will have a limited number of seats (50).
IGNOU reserves the right to conduct examinations at different centers or change examination centers without assigning any specific reasons.
