Institute Profile and Placement Opportunities

The Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) is renowned for its comprehensive curriculum and diverse placement opportunities. HIT not only provides a broad spectrum of placements in different types of chemical companies but also a significant number of its graduates are placed in IT companies. Traditionally, the placement scenario varies from year to year. However, it is important to note that the placement opportunities in HIT are on par with those in other departments.

Year 2017

I graduated from Chemical Engineering in 2017, and I can provide a detailed insight into the recent trends. IT companies play a major role in recruitment, with TCS alone recruiting 39 students from the Chemical Engineering batch, which consisted of around 70 students. Similarly, TCS and other IT companies continue to play a significant role in placements.

However, there is a likelihood of a change in the coming years, as IT companies may recruit fewer students this year. It's crucial to understand that once placed in a company, you will not be considered for placements in any other companies that come to recruit in future semesters.

Core Sector Companies

Core sector companies, though less frequent, still have a presence for recruitment. Linde, Phillips Carbon Black Ltd., Haldia Petrochemicals, and other companies such as Oriental Nicco, Chtex, Voith Paper, and Sanmar have been regular recruiters. The number of students they recruit can vary from year to year. For example, in 2017, Phillips Carbon Black Ltd. and Haldia Petrochemicals did not recruit, while in previous years they had recruited a number of students.

Government and PSU Placements

A number of students secure placements in industries and organizations like IOCL, ONGC, BPCL, and central government organizations such as BARC by securing good ranks in GATE. This reflects the competitive nature of the placement environment in almost all batches of Chemical Engineering. Over the years, HIT has seen a number of students securing ranks in GATE, which has significantly contributed to their placement rates.

Off-Campus Opportunities

Off-campus opportunities are also available, but they often require patience, as most companies are willing to recruit only after the final semester results. Faculty members play a crucial role in helping students appear for interviews through their industry networks.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the success of your placement depends largely on your efforts and knowledge of the subject. The market scenario changes annually, making it difficult to predict future trends. However, a strong foundation in the course and consistent hard work throughout the four years can significantly enhance your chances of a successful placement.

Conclusion

Chemical Engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology offers a diverse set of placement opportunities, with a focus on both IT and core sector companies. Students must stay informed about the placement trends and prepare meticulously to secure a desirable position.
