Introduction

Traveling the world has always been a dream for me, but it didn't come without challenges. As someone with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, my journey to success was filled with ups and downs. Despite the difficulties, I remained focused on my goal of working for global giants and traveling the world. In this article, I will share how I achieved my arbitrary yet ambitious goal and how mental health has played an integral role in my journey.

My Dream and Initial Challenges

When I started my career, one of my goals was to travel the world and work for international companies. It's a dream that sounds glamorous, but to many, including my friends and family, it was seen as unrealistic.

An average Indian seeing a job outside India is already a dream come true, but dreaming of working in multiple countries seemed like a pipe dream to them. Despite the skepticism, I never felt insulted or hurt. Instead, I simply reminded myself that one day I would be flying to different countries.

The Journey Begins

My first big step towards my goal came in 2018, just two years into my career, when I got an opportunity to work in Kuwait. Some people, including those born in Kuwait, were skeptical and thought I got the position due to a recommendation. However, I continued to stay determined and focused on my destination.

In 2021, after the pandemic, I made another tough move to the UK and later to Spain. Colleagues were amazed, and when asked about the process, my answer was always the same: if you strongly believe in your goal, the universe will open a path for you. Simply apply for roles through job portals, and the right opportunity will find you.

The Reality of Living Abroad

After moving to the UK, I realized that it's not as glamorous as it is portrayed in Indian movies. There was no fancy background music or colorful life; it was mostly grey. This experience made me realize that I had to continue my search for new adventures and places to work.

And then, the call came from Dubai, a place I had dreamt of working in since 2019. I managed to secure a role with one of the biggest firms there, and it has been a great experience so far. I am always on the lookout for new adventures and places to travel, with a particular interest in working in Canada or Australia, though the visa sponsorship rules in these countries are a bit stringent.

Managing Mental Health

As someone with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, I have faced numerous challenges in managing my mental health. Understanding why I am like this and identifying my disordered thinking patterns is a daily and often hourly challenge. These disorders can be incredibly draining, but I am committed to stopping the negative thoughts and improving my mental well-being.

Through therapy, I have seen significant improvements in my mental health. I feel more in control of my thoughts and actions, and I have gained a sense of peace and self-respect. This journey has taught me that overcoming certain aspects of myself once thought unchangeable is possible with dedication and the right resources.

Conclusion

My journey to global success and mental well-being has been long and challenging, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Despite the doubts and obstacles, I have remained focused on my dreams and have achieved them one step at a time. If you are faced with similar challenges, don’t let anyone else’s doubt deter you from pursuing your dreams. The right path will find you if you keep moving forward.
