Motivation is fleeting, but burnout is a serious physical and mental condition that can destroy both your happiness and long-term progress. Making progress toward long-term goals is about persistence not about stopping. Once you quit, all progress is dead. Even when you feel unmotivated, please don’t quit.
Understanding Burnout and Its Impact
Most people work hard at something for a while, but eventually, they give up when it gets too hard or they lose enthusiasm. This is why most people don’t succeed; this is why most people don’t become world-class. A craft takes years to develop, even if you are a prodigy. If you find yourself struggling with burnout, quitting should only be a last resort if long-term success is your goal.
Strategies to Tackle Burnout
When I approach my limits, I ease up on my effort. This usually gives me enough time to recover from strenuous work and regain motivation to begin. The key is to not beat yourself up when it feels like you're not making progress. Remember, you can die anytime. You have a 50/50 chance of dying or living. This thought can help you feel less anxious about materialistic problems and make you more uplifted.
Reducing Priorities for Success
Clawback on the number of simultaneous priorities you have set for yourself. For instance, if you have three projects on the go that demand 50%, 30%, and 20% of your intellectual capacity, reduce your objectives to only one and place 60% of your effort on that single goal. This significantly lightens your workload and increases your chances of completing the one successfully, giving you the incentive to accomplish your next most important challenge. A string of successes will provide the encouragement you need to perform and thus decrease your stress levels.
Meditation for Focus and Clarity
To meditate, you must be mentally and physically relaxed. Meditation is concentration used to know God. If your mind is distracted with problems, you will not be able to concentrate. First, you need to free your mind of anxiety by vigorous exercise and other activities you enjoy. The secret of muscle relaxation is to tense hard and then your muscles will relax all the way. Starting from the left foot, tense and relax each muscle in turn from feet to neck. Relax your mind by reliving a happy experience or visualizing a peaceful scene.
If you take lessons in Raja yoga meditation, you will learn the Hong Sau technique of concentration. Problem-consciousness does not work; it is easy to see a problem but harder to define it. Only by solution-consciousness will you attract solutions. Don’t complain and be paralyzed by negativity; suggest solutions.
