It can be incredibly difficult when you find yourself grappling with thoughts like, ‘This work is pointless, I’m broken, I’m seriously flawed, and everyone is acting like I’m not. Why is everyone pretending I’m not broken beyond belief?’ These feelings can be overwhelming, and it’s important to recognize that what you’re experiencing is valid. It is okay to acknowledge that you are not fine, and it is not a crime to feel this way.

Understanding and Validating Your Feelings

Firstly, try to understand that what you’re feeling is validated. Just because you’re not fine doesn’t make you a failure or less of a person. This is a symptom of not taking mental health checkups seriously. Just as your body requires annual checkups, so does your mind. Despite an active or inactive lifestyle, your mental health needs regular attention. Your thoughts and feelings are not a reflection of your worth, but merely a part of your human experience.

Treating Yourself with Empathy

It can be challenging to treat yourself with empathy, especially when struggling with deep-seated feelings of inadequacy. Try to approach yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to your closest friend. Ask yourself, 'What advice would I give to a friend who was feeling like this?' Consider writing down your thoughts and feelings to gain clarity and relieve some of the emotional burden.

Breaking Free from Limitations

It's crucial to understand that the world is not as confining as you may think. External perceptions and judgments should not dictate your worth or potential. The past does not define your future. You have the power to grow and become the person you want to be. When you have transformed into the person you aspire to be, no one will stop you from achieving greatness. Your present and future are yours to shape.

Asking the Difficult Questions

To move towards a state of acceptance, you need to engage in introspection and ask the difficult questions. These questions often bring discomfort, but they serve as guides to help you navigate your feelings. For example:

When did we start feeling this way? Why do I think I am broken? Would the people who know me best share the same opinion, or have I convinced myself of this?

Embrace the discomfort as a necessary part of the process of self-discovery and growth. Recognizing and understanding the source of your feelings can lead to significant personal transformation.

Letting Go of the Past

While it’s important to acknowledge and address your current feelings, it’s equally essential not to be anchored to the circumstances of the past. Your present life and your future are your own to create. You don’t have to accept your current state as a lifelong sentence. Acknowledge that you don’t feel fine right now and then embrace the opportunity to explore where your inspiration takes you from here.

We often suffer because we want to come to definitive conclusions prematurely, relying on quick answers when complex emotions are involved. This can lead to unnecessary pressure to conform to a particular perspective. This is a big question, and an existential one at that. Experience is often fluid and changeable. One moment you may feel fine, and the next, not so much.

To find a more viable path to well-being, we must change the way we conceive of our experience. Rather than feeling chronically out of sync with it, strive for a deeper understanding and acceptance of your emotions and thoughts. This involves a willingness to explore and understand the nuances of your own human experience.
