Navigating the MBA-EXE Interview Experience at FMS Delhi: Reflections and Insights

Introduction

The interview experience for MBA-EXE at FMS Delhi can be a daunting one, especially for those who are not as prepared as they might have been. This article shares my personal experience and insights from the 4-point interview process conducted on April 18, 2023.

The Interview Process

The interview at FMS Delhi generally consists of four main points: an introduction, an extempore session, a general discussion on why an individual wants to pursue an MBA, and miscellaneous questions that could range from economics, financial mathematics to current affairs. Here's a breakdown of what I experienced:

1. Introduction

I was asked 4-5 questions related to my introduction, which included my background, achievements, and future aspirations. While the preparation time was limited, the excitement and enthusiasm could not be contained.

2. Extempore

The extempore session followed closely, where I was asked to speak freely on a given topic. The topic wasArchitecture of FMS Red Building”. This is where the initial nervousness really hit home. However, with the help of a supportive peer, I managed to stay calm throughout the process.

3. Why MBA?

The next question revolved around why I wanted to pursue an MBA. This required a detailed analysis of my career goals, my understanding of an MBA, and how it fit into my professional aspirations.

4. Miscellaneous Questions

Future questions included topics such as:

SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Green Buildings Turning an existing building into a green building Solar panels and sustainability Opinions on the Central Vista projects and the IIMA demolition Opinions on NHSRCL (New Town Health and Sanitation Rural Council Limited) projects

The questions were diverse and often did not follow a specific order, requiring quick thinking and adaptability from the candidates.

The Interview Day

The interview day was scheduled for 2:00 PM. My brother, a constant source of comfort, accompanied me. Arriving early, I waited in the ground floor’s waiting room for the first round of document verification. The process was quick, and we were then directed to a smaller room for the actual interview.

The environment was calm until 5:00 PM, with only basic formalities being carried out. The atmosphere became restless as we heard rumors of 30-minute interviews, which is not the usual norm at FMS. The whole college seemed empty, and we were the only ones left, leaving us to console ourselves with the fact that we were on track with the interview slot.

Reflections on the Experience

As the interview approached, the pressure mounted, exacerbated by personal health issues (Pain due to PCOS). Despite these challenges, the questions were impressively diverse and required a wide range of knowledge and critical thinking. The main panelist's comment of "she did well" after the interviews was a significant morale booster.

However, the administrational lapses were notable. The lack of a structured SOP (Statement of Purpose) review session was a disappointment. Many candidates felt that they had been shortchanged by this oversight.

Outcome and Final Thoughts

Though the verdict was not in my favor, the experience left a lasting impression. It's important to remember that interviews are subjective and can be influenced by many factors. One should not lose heart over a single judgment.

Months of hard work and dedication can sometimes seem fruitless due to technicalities. It's crucial to keep a positive mindset, continue learning, and try again if necessary. Keep hustling, and do not let setbacks define your worth.

Key Takeaways

The interview experience is diverse and requires a range of skills, from leadership to analytical thinking. Preparation is crucial, but it is equally important to stay calm and composed during the interview. Interviews are often subjective, and it's essential to maintain a positive perspective.

In conclusion, while the MBA-EXE interview at FMS Delhi was a challenging experience, reflecting on the process helps in understanding the importance of preparation, composure, and perseverance.
