Navigating New Years Resolutions: A Personal Perspective
Navigating New Year's Resolutions: A Personal Perspective
Recently, I've come to the realization that I have a new year's resolution because my financial tracking app revealed an unexpected spending pattern. In just the month of January, I spent over 3000 INR on Swiggy, a food delivery platform. Previously, I had subscribed to the service that offers free deliveries within a 10km radius. However, the discounts and ease of ordering on Swiggy have made it difficult for me to resist its allure. The food quality in my personal residence also leaves much to be desired; while it's better than hostel food, the lack of taste still persists.
Enough with the excuses. It's time to take control. Starting now, I've pledged not to partake in any outside or street food. I understand that the journey will be challenging, especially when spending time with friends. Nevertheless, I believe this decision will lead to numerous benefits:
Financial savings: I can allocate this money to more productive and worthwhile endeavors. Health benefits: By opting for healthier meals, I can enhance my focus and productivity. Focus and concentration: Eating healthier and avoiding junk food will help me concentrate more on my studies and other important tasks.Let's see how long this commitment lasts. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Let's go!
Bye,

A Personal Reflection
Come across a beautiful quote that resonates well with my current state of mind. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
While this quote highlights the importance of perseverance, it also underscores the sincerity needed in setting and achieving goals. I often feel that success lies beyond the initial excitement of setting a resolution. Yet, when success feels out of reach, the only option left seems to be focusing on the process.
A Dependent Tradition
Growing up, I used to have New Year's resolutions. But they were never something I could resolve to achieve. As I've matured, I no longer believe in resolutions to the extent that I once did. However, I acknowledge that they can be powerful tools for self-improvement and personal growth.
For instance, let's consider the case of Liam, a smoker who has started facing health issues. At the beginning of the year, he made a resolution to quit smoking. From that moment, Liam began the process of quitting incrementally, eventually overcoming his addiction. What this tells us is that resolutions can serve as powerful motivators when paired with self-control and a commitment to change.
While I understand the value of resolutions, I also see their drawbacks. For many, making promises or setting intentions often leaves them vulnerable to breaking them. I implore everyone to consider self-control as the most crucial aspect of any resolution. Whether they are for yourself or others, new year's resolutions can contribute positively to your wellbeing, provided you approach them with the right mindset.
Viewing resolutions through a lens of self-control, it's clear that they can be a means to achieving positive changes. However, it is equally important to approach them with a realistic and achievable mindset. To all who are resolutioners: It's totally okay if not everyone agrees with this perspective. Our opinions and views on this topic are as diverse as our backgrounds. Let us all show mutual respect when sharing our thoughts.
