Navigating Career Paths: Finding Passion and Making Your Own Choice
Navigating Career Paths: Finding Passion and Making Your Own Choice
I remember thinking the same thing in my early teens. I'm now 58, and I still haven't figured out what I want to do as a career. This uncertainty is a common challenge for many, especially when you're young and trying to decide on a path that will shape your life for years to come.
Understanding Yourself: The Importance of Trust and Passion
Passion is all inside you. Try to understand what your mind is saying to you. Never trust anyone except the one who loves you. Build trust in yourself and focus on what you like to do. Explore that thing, understand it, and improve it. This is the way to build great knowledge in what you love, which is called passion.
Passion is not something you find; passion is something you create. You have the power to decide your own passion. For example, gold could be your passion for the next 5 years, and kung fu could be your passion for the next 8 years. Passion is when you dedicate yourself to something, like becoming a chess master. As you dedicate yourself to something, you will naturally feel more passion towards it. The more you engage in the skill, the more you will want to continue and build on it.
Life is not without confusion at any stage. So, this is normal. Without knowing a lot of your details, it makes sense to talk to a career counselor who can show various possibilities in careers available to you. Also, you can try attempting psychometric tests that reveal your personality and are very helpful in identifying a right career.
Evolution and Change in Personalities
Remember that as an individual, you keep on evolving, so the things that you like now may change a few years down the line. So while trying to identify passion, also try to define what type of career you would like to have. Understand yourself better to understand what type of work you will like to do. Don't wait for you to identify the passion before building a career. Both are different things. Passion is timeless and you can pursue it at any age, however, a specific career is time-bound and you need to enter it at the right time and age.
Life is full of challenges, and this is one of them. But the good news is that you have the power to shape your path. Take small steps, explore different interests, and most importantly, trust yourself. Your journey is unique, and your passion might not be fixed, but it can be what you make of it.
