My Journey with SSC CGL: A Rollercoaster of Preparation and Trials

My First Mock Score

When I embarked on my preparation journey for the SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) exam, I faced a series of unexpected challenges. My very first mock test score was a shocker. I scored 54, a figure that seemed so unattainably low that I even forgot to take a screenshot. But, as they say, the road to success is paved with setbacks. I worked hard and steadily improved.

Preparing for the Exam

Before the CGL 2019 pre-exam, I was scoring around 115, which, while not ideal, was a significant improvement. My overall score in the preliminary examination was 160, and I have shared my official scorecard for verification. Unfortunately, life had other plans. On May 22, 2020, I was hit by a personal crisis that took me almost three months to overcome. I started my preparation again on August 10, 2020, but just as everything was back on track, another unfortunate incident—my brother's accidental demise—derailed my plans.

The Rollercoaster Continues

When the SSC CGL notification was released, my sister, without consulting me, applied and handed me my application form. This prompted me to reassess my preparation. After two months of inactivity, I gave a mock test and scored 86. Encouraged, I resumed my full preparation on January 10, 2021, and started giving mocks every alternate day. My efforts paid off as I broke my own score record, achieving 115, which I previously thought would be impossible to maintain consistently.

Final Exams and Aspirations

I was determined to push my limits further. One of my last tests was especially grueling, and I saw my score rise to an impressive 156. With CGL 2020 not happening until August, I felt optimistic about achieving a score between 150 and 160. My goal is to not only qualify but also to secure my dream post this year.

Reflections on Preparation

This journey has taught me that while scoring 70-80 might seem manageable without much preparation, crossing 100 or 120 requires a lot of hard work and practice. It's not until you aim for 150 and beyond that you truly understand the complexity of the exam. My story is a reminder that personal disruptions and setbacks can be turned into opportunities for growth and success.

Good luck to all those who are gearing up for the SSC CGL exam this year. Remember, persistence and determination are the keys to success in any competitive exam.

Conclusion

My journey with SSC CGL has been filled with challenges, but it has also been a resilient and rewarding experience. I hope my experiences and reflections here can inspire and guide others in their preparation for this exam. Let's all roll up our sleeves and strive for excellence in the upcoming CGL exams.
