As a developer with nearly 17 years of industry experience, the journey of job switching and salary negotiations has been quite fascinating. Let's start with a pivotal moment in my career. In my previous company, I was earning a significant salary close to 1 Cr (about $125,000 annually). However, my new company offered me a base salary of 1.1 Cr, bringing my total CTC (Cost to Company) minimally above 2.1 Cr. That's a substantial increase, and while the hike of 100 L (about $12,500) might not seem monumental, it represents a significant portion of my earnings, making it a considerable milestone in my career.
Setting Benchmarks for Expectations
When switching jobs, it's crucial to understand the market value of your skills and the current economy. For example, in 2023, with close to 150 L in salary offered, I decided to stay in my current position rather than accept the higher offer.
