Inspiration from My Self-Motivated Father: Overcoming Adversity
Which Personality Inspires You to Work Hard?
Self-motivation is a powerful force that propels me through life's challenges. I am my own motivator, embracing each day with a commitment to excellence. My internal drive to excel has been my North Star, guiding me forward with passion and determination.
A Self-Motivated Father
The story of my father profoundly illustrates the transformative power of self-motivation. Growing up in a financially unstable household, my father faced numerous obstacles, yet his dedication to his education stands as a testament to his resilience.
Challenges and Determination
My father was one of eight siblings, and he lost his mother at the young age of ten. This loss was devastating for the family, as it scattered them across various parts of the country. Unfortunately, our father's grandfather, responsible for our upbringing, did not place much emphasis on education, a common issue in rural areas.
Despite these challenges, my father's passion for learning remained unshaken. During his 10th grade examinations, he scored the highest marks in the entire village, earning widespread admiration. This experience motivated him to pursue commerce, becoming the first ever commerce student in the district. He traveled more than 18 to 20 kilometers to obtain his examination results printed in the newspaper, indicating the lengths he was willing to go to for his education.
A Selfless Pursuit of Education
Financially disadvantaged, my father's grandfather advised him to abandon his education. Instead, my father sought accommodation at his uncle's home, living with only two sets of clothes—one for wearing and another stored under his mattress to remain wrinkle-free. His determination did not wane even when faced with such hardships.
After completing his 12th grade, he enrolled in a local college for commerce. Here, he heard about Chartered Accountancy (CA), an opportunity he knew would require significant financial sacrifice. Thanks to a scholarship, he was able to continue his studies. Even after 25 years, our college professors still remembered him, underscoring the impact he made.
Self-Sustained Success
With just Rs. 10, my father traveled to the state capital to seek employment. In the interim between securing a job, he earned extra funds by teaching tuition and distributing newspapers. His first job came with minimal office space, but he bought a bicycle with his first paycheck, walking 150 kilometers to his sister's wedding to display his accomplishment. At just 25 years old, he built his own house, a significant milestone for a CA.
For his work, he always coveted a computer. When finally able to afford one, he proudly captured the moment, keeping the photo laminated as a cherished reminder. The computer, although basic by today's standards, symbolized the culmination of his hard work and dreams.
Reflection and Gratitude
Reflecting on my father's journey, I feel immensely proud to have such an exemplar. His story reinforces the importance of self-motivation and perseverance in the face of adversity.
While I often find it difficult to express my affection to him directly, I hope to convey my love to him someday. As the saying goes, even the shadow of a father is enough, and his shadow is a constant source of inspiration for me. JAI HIND is not just a phrase, but a call to action, reminding me to carry forward the spirit of determination and resilience.
