IBPS RRB PO Prelims 2021 Experience: A Journey Through Anxiety and Relief

This article provides a detailed account of my experience in the IBPS RRB PO (Probationary Officer) Preliminary Examination of 2021, a significant milestone in my journey towards becoming a bank employee. Overview of IBPS RRB PO Exam

The IBPS RRB PO Prelims exam is a crucial preliminary stage in the recruitment process for the post of Probationary Officer in regional rural banks. The objective of this exam is to screen applicants based on their aptitude and general knowledge. Success is determined by clearing sectional cutoffs as well as overall cutoffs.

My Attempt in the 2021 IBPS RRB PO Prelims

In the 2021 IBPS RRB PO Prelims, I attempted 54 questions. However, some of my answers were incorrect, bringing my total to 53 marks, which was 1.25 marks short of the cutoff in my state, Madhya Pradesh (MP), which was 54.25.

My Experience in the IBPS RRB PO Mains Exam

Pre-examination Process

My Mains exam took place on January 22, 2022, with a reporting time of 7:30 AM. I went through the pre-examination process meticulously, from reaching the venue to the initial instructions. I maintained composure and approached the exam with confidence.

Exam Sections

The exam was conducted in five sections: Reasoning, General Awareness (GA), English Language, Quantitative Aptitude (QA), and Descriptive Writing (Quantitative Aptitude).

Reasoning Section

In the reasoning section, I attempted around 15 questions. Of these, 7 to 8 were 2 marks questions, and I was confident in my accuracy. I found this section relatively manageable, but it was crucial for overall success.

General Awareness (GA) Section

The GA section was the most challenging for me. Although I went through all the questions, I felt that clearing the sectional cutoff might be tough. Previous year's sectional cutoffs for GA were around 11 marks for General category candidates. To balance the risk, I decided to attempt all the GA questions, hoping that my overall performance would help me clear the cutoff.

English Language Section

Compared to the GA section, the English Language section was more straightforward. I attempted 25 questions and found a reasonable level of accuracy.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) Section

In the QA section, I attempted 24 questions, with 8 being 2 marks questions. This section required strong numerical reasoning skills, and I tried to optimize my time by focusing on easier questions first.

Descriptive Writing Section

The Descriptive Writing section was the final section of the exam. It offered an opportunity to boost the overall score. I composed a well-structured letter and an essay, ensuring that my handwriting and presentation were clear.

I am content with my performance except for the GA section, where I struggled to meet the sectional cutoff.

Final Outcome and Reflection

Although I did not clear the sectional cutoff in GA, I managed to clear the overall cutoff. My hard work paid off, and I secured a good rank in Punjab and Sind Bank. This experience has taught me the importance of strategic decision-making and maintaining confidence despite challenges.

Conclusion

For future aspirants, my advice is to focus on understanding the exam pattern, practicing sectional cutoffs, and managing time effectively. Stay calm and confident, and never underestimate the value of hard work and preparation.
