How to Manage Your LinkedIn Accounts: Merging Personal and Company Pages

For many professionals, managing a company page on LinkedIn alongside a personal profile can be confusing and sometimes necessary. You might want to merge your personal LinkedIn account with the one you used to create the company page, or you may need to close a personal account that you no longer use. This article will guide you through the process and provide tips on how to effectively manage your LinkedIn accounts.

Step-by-Step Guide to Merging Personal and Company Accounts

1. Designate an Admin: Ensure that your company page has an admin role assigned to your personal account. This is crucial for maintaining control over the page while using both accounts. Simply navigate to your company page settings and find the 'Admin Roles' section to add yourself.

2. Transfer Ownership if Needed: If you want to transfer ownership of the company page to a new personal account, follow these steps:

Add the new account as a co-admin. Confirm that the new admin has full control over the page. After verifying that the new admin is competent, remove your former admin role.

3. Close the Personal Account (if desired): If you plan to stop using your personal account, close it carefully. Ensure that all necessary connections and data are transferred to your active personal account or the new admin role. Note that you should only close your personal account if you're ready to manage the company page exclusively through another account.

4. Link Accounts: While you can't merge accounts, linking your company page to your personal profile is a good workaround. Make sure your personal profile clearly indicates your role in the company to maintain professional presence.

5. Update Profile Information: On your personal account, include your position and responsibilities at the company in your profile summary. This helps in maintaining a professional connection with your network.

6. Inform Connections: If you decide to close your personal account, inform your connections about your new way of connecting with them through the company page or a new personal account.

Merging LinkedIn Pages: A More Complex Process

For companies with multiple pages, it may be necessary to merge LinkedIn Pages. This can only be done by a super admin contacting Support Team. Here are the criteria:

You must be a super admin of both pages: The pages must be duplicates, regional un-acquired subsidiaries, or divisional pages for the same company. The pages must have more than 100 employees associated with them. The names on both pages must match.

Before submitting a merge request, consider:

The once-merged page can't be reversed. Data associated with the merged pages, including text, images, boosted updates, analytics, and posted updates, will no longer be accessible. LinkedIn Ads Accounts associated with the merged pages can't be moved to the retained page, and ad creatives can't be reactivated. Only employees and followers are migrated to the retained page. All employees associated with the merged pages, including subsidiary pages, will be linked to the retained page. Job postings associated with the merged pages will continue to be active but won't be migrated to the retained page. You’ll need to manually re-associate the job posting with the retained page. The merged pages will no longer be active or discoverable through search.

At LinkedIn, the member experience is our top priority and our policies are designed to protect member trust. The parameters outlined above will be upheld to maintain information provided by a member and not modify an action taken by a member in a way that deviates from their original intentions without their expressed acknowledgment or approval.
