Future Plans After Clearing GATE 2020: Navigating Academic and Professional Paths

Since the commencement of the Indian Institutes of Science (IISc) classes has been delayed, I am exploring the competitive programming domain. With a background in electrical engineering, I clinched GATE EE 2020 Rank 412. This achievement was purely accidental, as I did not study for the exam and instead took it for the sheer fun of it. Despite the low rank, I am still proud to be in the top 92 percentile without any preparation.

Post-GATE Activities and Goals

Post-GATE, I dove into self-study with a free course on Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) from Udemy. Concurrently, I am practicing on the HackerRank platform to hone my problem-solving skills. My current performance reflects a solid foundation with 5 stars in problem solving, scoring 1952.42 out of 2200.

Recently, I participated in two CodeChef challenges in August, achieving a second-star rating and am eager to take part in the lunch time track. These activities are not only enjoyable but also essential for my career growth in the tech industry.

Prioritizing Personal Development

During the lockdown, I found myself playing newly downloaded games on my phone. However, I used the extra time to enhance my English communication skills by enrolling in English speaking classes. Simultaneously, I studied programming languages like C and C to refine my coding skills. The lockdown period also offered me a valuable opportunity to learn about the share market and stock trading, broadening my knowledge in financial markets.

Further, I delved into digital marketing by watching video lectures. This new field of interest complements my existing technical skills and paves the way for a multifaceted career. Moreover, I am preparing for GATE 2022, keen to improve my results and bolster my application for top engineering colleges.

PSU Aspirations and On-Campus Placements

I have achieved a 75th rank in GATE Chemical. With limited PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) slots and overall uncertainty, I am closely monitoring the situation. Given my rank, securing a PSU position seems challenging. Nonetheless, I am committed to finishing my college assignments and projects, as they are crucial for my academic progress.

Navigating Post-Results

After the results were declared, my goals shifted towards interview preparation and revisiting the GATE syllabus. The COAP (Central Employment Test for Civil Services) commencing soon has brought a renewed sense of anticipation. However, the recent postponement of exam dates has added to the anxiety. Regardless, I remain optimistic and focused on seizing every opportunity that comes my way.

Conclusion

My journey after clearing GATE 2020 reflects a multifaceted approach towards personal and professional growth. From competitive programming and digital marketing to enhancing communication and financial literacy, I am exploring various domains to build a robust future. As I continue to navigate through these post-GATE plans, I remain motivated and determined to achieve my goals.
