Enlightenment is often equated with the dissolution of the psychosomatic self, where the ego and its pervasive desires are transcended. In this state, one is no longer bound by the confines of body and mind, and consequently, suffering ceases to exist. This is because suffering arises from internal struggles and external conditions that are perceived through a particular lens, a lens that is inherent to the psychosomatic environment.
Is Life Intrinsically Mean? The Quest for Self-Awareness
The question often arises: Is there any meaning to life? This is not a matter of proof or scientific knowledge, but rather a subjective human endeavor that involves understanding and self-awareness. As Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse explains, 'Everything is always changing. If you relax into this truth that is Enlightenment. If you resist this is samsara suffering.' Embracing the flux of life without resistance is a profound practice that leads to inner freedom. The teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh emphasize the importance of letting go, stating, 'Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If in our heart we still cling to anything—anger, anxiety, or possessions—we cannot be free.'
Enlightenment is a journey of self-discovery and transformation. It is about becoming aware of the transient nature of life and learning to live in harmony with this truth. By embracing impermanence and non-attachment, one can experience a more fulfilling and less painful existence.
