Deferred Medical Examinations Post SSB Recommendations
Deferred Medical Examinations Post SSB Recommendations
After being recommended by the Services Selection Board (SSB) for a position in the Indian Armed Forces, candidates typically undergo a medical examination. However, in certain circumstances, if a candidate is unable to attend the medical examination on the scheduled date, they may be allowed to undergo the medicals at a later date. This flexibility is subject to the discretion of the authorities and policies in place.
Postponement of Medical Examinations
It is possible to opt for a later date for your medical examination. To achieve this, you need to make a request when you receive the SSB recommendation. On the first day of the conference, you will be provided with the necessary forms. Upon filling these forms, you will be asked whether you want to postpone your medical examination or not. Request postponement during this process if you have a valid reason.
Valid Reasons for Postponement
SSBs are willing to grant postponement in certain circumstances, but the reason must be substantial. Common valid reasons include academic examinations such as IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) or NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), and urgent personal matters. If you fall into one of these categories, make sure to explain your situation clearly and provide any necessary documentation.
Medical Examination Timeline
Generally, the medical examination is conducted just after the SSB process. This timeline serves two purposes: it allows candidates who receive temporary rejections (due to conditions like weight-related issues) ample time to address these issues and return for a re-evaluation. However, it is important to note that if you are recommended by the SSB, you are expected to undergo the medical examination on the scheduled day. Medical forms will be provided to you on the day of the recommendation, and from that day forward, the medical examination process will begin in a nearby military hospital or base.
It is strongly advised that you prepare as early as possible and ensure that you are able to attend the medical examination on the scheduled day. However, if you encounter any unforeseen circumstances that necessitate a postponement, be prepared to present a strong case and any relevant documentation.
Reappearing for Medicals
In cases where you temporarily reject a medical examination (for instance, due to weight-related issues), you will be given a 45-day period to address the issue and reappear for the medical examination. This window is designed to give you sufficient time to make necessary adjustments, ensuring a fair and thorough evaluation.
Remember, if you are recommended by the SSB, it is imperative that you adhere to the scheduled medical examination on the set date. Any delays or postponements must be exceptionally justified and documented.
