Choosing What Truly Matters: Prioritizing Our Faith Over Man's Opinion

Have you ever pondered the value you place on the opinions of others, especially when they matter little but their judgments run deep into your thoughts? In our contemporary world, we often find ourselves being swayed by the fleeting opinions of others, while overlooking the one who matters infinitely more: God. This article delves into why valuing God's love and acceptance should be our top priority, rather than worrying about what others think.

The Importance of Revering God Above All

God, the omnipotent and omniscient Being, desires obedience, love, honor, respect, and a genuine connection from His children. However, He understands that our human limitations and flaws may cloud our judgment. It is crucial to recognize that God values the essence of our character, not just the outward appearance. As Psalms 18:30 (AMP) poignantly articulates, “He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of protection, and you have taken great delight in those who fear you, adorning us with victory.”

Overcoming Fear of Man's Condemnation

Many of us live in constant fear of how others perceive us and what they might do to us. This fear can paralyze our decision-making and cloud our judgment. However, it is vital to overcome this fear and place our confidence in God. In Psalms 56:11 (AMP), it is written, “As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him. For who is God but the Lord? And who is a rock but our God?” We can find comfort and confidence in knowing that God is always with us, providing strength and protection.

Pursuing True Affection from God

While God’s affection is vast and unconditional, it can be challenging to cultivate a deep, meaningful relationship with Him. The more we dwell on man's opinions, the more we detract from the essence of our faith. In Romans 8:33 (AMP), it is stated, “Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies us. Who is he who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, yes, rather, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.” If God has already interceded for us, what charge can man bring?

Putting God First in All Our Decisions

It's essential to prioritize God above all, ensuring that our actions align with His will. This doesn't mean we should be indifferent to others' opinions or dismiss them entirely. However, we should not allow these opinions to overshadow our relationship with God. Instead, we should seek His guidance in all matters and trust that God will see us through.

Example from Personal Experience: The Three Creepy Dogs

I have three little creepy dogs, and the value I place on them is a mystery only I understand. Yet, I would never let them go for anything. But if someone wanted to give one of them a good home, I'd seriously consider it. This love and commitment I have towards my dogs could be seen as irrational or even comedic to others, but in my heart, I know it truly matters. The same applies to our relationship with God. Our fear of man and his opinions can often detract from the true value of our faith and our relationship with God. By putting God first and trusting in His sovereignty, we can find peace and fulfillment in our lives.

Conclusion

Our lives are fraught with distractions and fears, but the most crucial aspect of our existence is our relationship with God. While the opinions of others may hold weight, let us strive to align our lives with God's will, putting Him first and overcoming the fear of man's judgment.
