Choosing Between a Startup and a Consultancy at Oracle: A Personal Perspective

Dear all, currently, I am working for a startup and they are paying me a fine salary. However, I have been selected for a consultancy company whose client is Oracle. If I accept this job, I would be working for Oracle’s client. I am unable to decide what to do. Should I continue with my current job or try the consultancy opportunity?

Consider the Future

Continuing to work for the startup could provide valuable experience and build competency. It’s a great opportunity to establish a strong foundation. Once you build the necessary skills, you might aim to apply for a permanent position at Oracle with a better role and salary package. This is a wise option if you dream big and are willing to invest in long-term growth.

Personal Reflections

Personally, I found great satisfaction and enjoyed my work at Oracle. While that was a past experience, I do miss the Oracle culture. Given the opportunity to rejoin Oracle, I would certainly consider it. However, it’s important to note that different verticals and business units within Oracle are not the same. The experience you had at one client does not guarantee the same at another. Since there is limited information available, it’s crucial to gather more details before making a decision.

Consulting Opportunities

When faced with an opportunity to work as a consultant for Oracle, the key is to evaluate the offer carefully. If the consultancy company is offering a good salary hike and an acceptable work environment, you should consider accepting the offer. It's important to gather more information about the consultancy arrangement.

Check the feedback from current employees Find out if the consultancy has any clause that restricts you from accepting an Oracle offer while you are employed with them Assess whether the position at Oracle aligns with other potential clients for the same role

Focus on Your Interests

Ultimately, it comes down to what kind of work aligns with your interests. Don’t focus on the client, as it frequently changes throughout your career. Instead, focus on the type of job you are doing and compare it to the offer you are considering. Does the new position match your interests and career goals? Answering this question will help you make a more informed decision.

Remember, you are the best judge for your future career. When comparing salary conditions and work terms, you need to determine what feels right for you. Trust your instincts and make a decision that aligns with your long-term aspirations.
