Can You See the Statue of Liberty from the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yes, you can see the Statue of Liberty from the Brooklyn Bridge, but the view is not as close or clear as from other locations like Battery Park or a ferry. The statue is located on Liberty Island, which is positioned to the southwest of the bridge. While the view from the middle or the Brooklyn side of the bridge is worth a try, the skyline distance often blocks the full view. However, you can still spot the iconic landmark from various points on the bridge.
The Vantage Points on the Brooklyn Bridge
Located along the southwestern part of the bridge, the Statue of Liberty can be seen from the middle or Brooklyn side. During my trip, I noticed the statue when driving over the bridge, which indicates the visibility even from a distance. Additionally, you can see three other bridges from the Statue of Liberty at ground level: the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges. These landmarks make for a recognizable skyline that can be easily remembered as 'BMW.'
Often, people mistake the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for the Brooklyn Bridge. It's helpful to point out that the Brooklyn Bridge was the first suspension bridge and the Verrazano-Narrows is the longest single span suspension bridge in the USA. These bridges are about 8 miles and nearly a hundred years apart.
Alternative Viewing Points
For a better view of the Statue of Liberty, consider visiting popular locations such as Manhattan's Battery Park, Governor's Island, and the Red Hook area in Brooklyn. On clear summer evenings, one of our favorite activities is to watch the sunset from the outdoor grill at Fairway in Red Hook. This area offers a picturesque backdrop for watching the sunset while enjoying a meal and drinks.
Another unique spot to see the Statue of Liberty is from the Red Hook Ikea Restaurant. You can also view the statue from the Ikea Ferry that connects Red Hook to Manhattan. These lesser-known locations offer an interesting twist to viewing one of the world's most iconic landmarks.
Overall, while the view from the Brooklyn Bridge is not the best, it does offer a unique perspective and is definitely worth checking out. For the clearest views, explore other nearby areas like Battery Park and the Staten Island Ferry.
