Best Habits for a 20-Year-Old to Inculcate for a Successful Future

Looking back on my early twenties, I can see that the experiences I had were not just about enjoyment; they also laid a foundation for my future success. While in college, I focused on chilling, travelling, and enjoying life without much consideration for productivity or goal chasing. However, reflecting on those years, I realize the importance of certain habits that can significantly impact one's future success.

Read Books

Reading books is one of the best habits I have inculcated and would like to emphasize. When I was younger, I deeply loved reading, and books always fascinated me. However, somewhere along the line, I drifted away from this habit. It wasn’t until I turned 24 that I rediscovered my love for books. At that point, I realized that I had been overlooking a valuable source of inspiration and knowledge. Today, books are a part of my life again, filling my days with insights that I can apply to my daily life and professional endeavors.

Writing

Writing has become another significant hobby for me. Article writing and blogging are my preferred mediums of expression. Writing feels like a natural extension of myself, and it serves multiple purposes. In today’s digital age, where the internet is pervasive, writing online is not just a form of creativity, but also a strategic approach to earning, growing an audience, and enhancing language skills. Ideas can reach global audiences, building a bridge of shared experiences and thoughts.

Meditation

Meditation is another habit that I have found to be both simple and profound. It is an incredible tool for calming the nerves and connecting with oneself on a deeper level. In times of solitude, practice in meditation helps us understand and control our thoughts, rather than being ruled by them. Daily meditation has brought a sense of clarity and peace to my life, enabling me to stay centered and composed amidst the chaos of modern living.

Working on Your Skill

Another crucial habit that I wish I had inculcated: working on your skill. In my twenties, I had ample time and knowledge to focus on programming, but I did not utilize this period wisely. Instead of working on projects and creating a strong portfolio, I let those years pass without taking my skills seriously. Even during my master's program, I had the opportunity to get certified, but I did not pursue it. I constantly postponed interviews, telling myself I would start after graduation, then after my master's, and later after my AI course. Looking back, I realize this was a mistake.

Spend at least a couple of hours daily building a skill and creating a portfolio. Do not wait for your studies to end before applying for interviews; start applying while you continue to learn. Interviews are part of the growth process, and the more you engage, the better you will become. Waiting only hinders your progress, while taking action propels you forward.

Adopting these habits at an early age can significantly impact your future success. Whether it's reading, writing, meditating, or working on a skill, make sure to integrate these practices into your daily routine. These habits are not just beneficial for your personal development but also pave the way for more successful career paths and personal achievements.
