Corporate Induction and Initial Training
Upon joining BPCL, a cohort of around 30 fresh graduates reported to Mumbai's Corporate Office. This was the beginning of an exciting 2-week Induction Training program held at Bharat Bhavan. This period was marked by a flurry of activities designed to acquaint us with the organization's history, leadership, and culture. It was an incredible opportunity to meet top-level executives, including Directors and Managing Directors, who provided valuable insights into the company's operations and future plans. Additionally, we got to explore one of the busiest cities in India, Mumbai, during this enriching period.
Field Training: A Comprehensive Hands-on Experience
Following the induction training, we were sent on a Field Training program across different regions of India. My training route took me to Patna, Bihar, where I experienced hands-on training in various sectors of the company.
Retail SBU Field Training
The training in Retail SBU focused on retail operations within a storage and dispatch terminal. Highlights included learning about the safety measures in handling petroleum products, understanding storage and dispatch planning, and gaining insight into gantry operations. Additionally, we delved into petrol and diesel sales, quality checking, and inspection of retail outlets. The final two days involved studying consumer behavior along with area sales officers. We concluded the training with a small presentation to the Installation Head discussing our experiences and learnings.
LPG SBU Field Training
The next phase of training was at the LPG plant. We were exposed to sales and operations within the LPG sector. The training included three operational days and field work with sales officers for the remaining days. Our task was to navigate the markets of Patna, visit different gas distributors, and understand the dynamics of the industry. We concluded with a presentation to the Installation Head and a group photograph.
State Head Office: A Tour of Lubes SBU
The final stage involved a visit to the State Head Office in Bihar, where both the Retail and Lubes sales teams were based. For the first three days, we conducted market surveys and sociolinguistic research at around 100-200 lube distributors, analyzing the problems faced by these distributors. On the fourth day, the State Head delivered a fascinating presentation on 'The Stages of Life,' offering a deep dive into consumer behavior and market trends.
The field training was both challenging and rewarding. It provided real-world experience, along with the chance to build relationships with senior officials and peers.
Campus to Corporate Transition and Placement
One week later, we embarked on the next phase of our training: the Campus to Corporate program at BPCL Kharghar, featuring lots of fun and team-building activities. This was followed by a final week in Mumbai, where we engaged in community service activities through various government schools under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The last day, after an interview for SBU allocation, I was assigned to the Kochi Refinery. Since then, my career journey with BPCL has been both exciting and fulfilling.
