AirAsia and IndiGo: Security Deposits or Legitimate Recruitment Practices?
AirAsia and IndiGo: Security Deposits or Legitimate Recruitment Practices?
As of my last knowledge update in August 2023, neither AirAsia nor IndiGo is known to request a security deposit for job interviews. Legitimate airlines typically do not ask candidates for money during the recruitment process. If you encounter a situation where you are asked for a deposit or payment to attend an interview, it is advisable to be cautious as this may be a scam.
Always verify the legitimacy of the job offer and the recruitment process by checking official company channels or contacting their HR departments directly. In India, none of the airlines ask you to deposit any money for any purpose except to buy a ticket for travel. In fact, for some specific jobs, they even provide free tickets for the journey towards their interview locations.
Common Scams in the Recruitment Process
Many graduates, especially in difficult times, fall victim to scams during the job search. A common tactic is for fake recruiters to impersonate legitimate companies and ask for payments. For example, a guy named Anurag contacted an unemployed graduate, claiming to be from AirAsia and offering a vacancy at the International Airport of Chennai. He presented himself as totally legitimate based on information from job search sites.
Another case involves a candidate receiving a WhatsApp message regarding their CV selection in AirAsia Airlines. The message asked for a payment of 1550 INR for registration, which the candidate quickly verified as fraudulent as AirAsia does not ask for money even for registration.
Recognizing Real Interview Practices
It is crucial for candidates to understand legitimate recruitment practices employed by airlines such as AirAsia and IndiGo. According to reliable information, no airline calls a candidate for an interview or conducts it over a call. All airline interviews are face-to-face, involving an in-person interaction with the HR team.
Additionally, after clearing an interview, a security deposit may be asked for, but never before. Some interview processes may include telephone or video interviews, but no legitimate airline would request payment at this stage. The only exception is the security deposit, which is due only after the candidate has successfully passed the interview and any other rounds, and it is always an optional step based on company policy.
Conclusion: Be vigilant and verify all information. Contact the official channels of AirAsia and IndiGo for any ambiguities or requests for money during the recruitment process.
